Basket Til The Casket
The first Market Basket I fell in love with was the one in Union Square, Somerville.
Cramped, always packed, more diverse than the United Nations. I saw a family taking graduation photos in the produce section one time, a beaming dad in his maroon managers jacket.
Then I went to the one in Chelsea, and my sense of what was possible in this world expanded greatly. A cafe and bakery? Prepared food of all types? 1,000 registers, each with their own cashier AND BAGGER!?
I became a full-on Basket man at that moment. This design commemorates all that.
The Taj Mahal-ish Waltham location is my current home store. If you ever see me pushing my cart over those dusty red and white tiles, my son hanging off the side and knocking over a row of chocolate milk, don’t be afraid to say hi. And please don’t block the aisle.
